Valade gifts support heart care and more

Patients who come to Ascension St. John Hospital for heart care have access to advanced technology and state-of-the-art facilities thanks in large part to Gretchen C. Valade's exceptional gifts.

Gretchen has donated significant funds for a new Electrophysiology Lab and cutting-edge technology. This gift dramatically improve physicians' abilities to determine abnormal heart rhythms and allows the hospital to maintain its leading position. She also gave a transformational gift in appreciation of physicians to create an endowment for the Structural and Endovascular Heart Program within Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. A portion of this gift was designated for an Advanced Imaging Program for Orthopedics.

Earlier Gretchen made a $3 million gift to establish the Gretchen C. Valade Cardiovascular Hybrid Operating Room and another $2 million gift to provide surgical robotic technology. Cardiovascular Specialty Clinics have opened in the Gretchen C. Valade Cardiovascular Outpatient Center on the 2nd floor of the Van Elslander Pavilion with funding from Gretchen. These clinics offer advanced cardiovascular specialty care in one convenient location.

The generous philanthropist has also given significant donations for the Valade Healing Arts Center in the Van Elslander Cancer Center, a patient floor in the Van Elslander Pavilion, the Valade Gym, Education Center and Spa for physical rehabilitation patients, and The Suites at Ascension St. John Hospital.

Gretchen is Chair of the Board of Carhartt, Inc., CEO of Mack Avenue Records, and owner of the Dirty Dog Jazz Café, the Morning Glory Coffee Shop and Bakery, and Capricious Boutique.
