Gifts in support of the Ascension Providence Simulation Center help OB/GYN and Surgery residents pass their required exam

The Karl Storz Endoscopy Laparoscopic Needle and Mock Medical Needle Holder (straight and curved) were purchased using funds from the Dubaybo Overholt Schubiner Sinno Simulation Center Endowment.

The new equipment was used to facilitate laparoscopic skills practice for OB/GYN and Surgery residents in preparation for their required high-stakes exam, “Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Skills.”

One hundred percent of the residents from these two residency programs passed their exam in the academic year 2019-2020. The program directors and residents were very grateful to have the same needle holders as used in practice to prepare for this exam.

Dialysis patient hospitalizations decrease because of your gifts...Here’s how your support of the “Greatest Need” at Ascension St. John Hospital has made a lifesaving difference.

Donations made it possible for six associates from the Dialysis department at Ascension St. John to attend a three-day Optia training from Terumo BCT, Inc. This intensive training focused on pheresis, RBC exchange and leukapheresis (all advanced blood therapy treatments).

The true impact of the donations received is that fewer patients needed to be hospitalized because more dialysis associates received training in these lifesaving treatments. Thank you!

One patient discussed with the Dialysis staff how the ability to come in for treatments has decreased the need for hospitalization and has improved the way he is feeling.

Your support of the Because We Care Breast Program made it possible for women in need to receive lifesaving breast care services. Thank YOU for making a difference in the lives of others!

No one should have to forgo healthcare due to a lack of financial resources, but sadly this is a reality for many women. However, you are helping to change that! Your gift in support of the Because We Care Breast Program provides prevention and detection breast care services with a priority focus on mammogram screenings for women who are uninsured or underinsured. You are helping women diagnosed with breast cancer have better outcomes. More so, women whose breast cancer is detected at an early stage have a 93 percent or higher survival rate in the first five years.

Many patients helped through the program “give back” when they are able. One patient who received help through the Because We Care Breast program now coordinates an annual food drive to support the oncology patient food pantry at Ascension St. John Hospital.

Yes, I want to send words of encouragement to a nurse

Over the past 15 months, nurses have been working tirelessly to care for all their patients – a life's work made even more challenging due to COVID-19. Nurses are physically and mentally exhausted, and your note of gratitude can help lift their spirits.

In celebration of National Nurses Week (May 6 -12, 2021), will you write a note of thanks to an outstanding nurse or to the staff on a nursing unit? Will you also support a nurse by making a gift to the Nursing Support Fund?

Your donation will help nurses stay current with best practices through continuing education, help purchase new equipment for the nursing units, and provide special nurse recognition activities.

Your note will be shared with nurses and their units on May 6, the first day of Nurses Week. Please make a gift today!
