Community Benefit Programs - Fund Descriptions

Anthony L. Soave Family Mobile Mammography & Health Screening Center (34022-SY2698) Supports operational and program needs of the mobile mammography unit such as: needed repairs and maintenance of the mobile unit, gas and auto insurance; technology upgrades; licensing and education of the staff; brochures, flyers and other community education materials; all other associated program costs.

Bridges to HOPE (34027-514000-85972) Helping Others Prosper through Empowerment (HOPE) helps those living in poverty to prosper. Areas of focus include: access to healthcare and support for basic needs (adequate food, clothing, shelter, transportation, a safe environment and employment). The program also addresses financial literacy and education, coaching, mentoring and volunteer opportunities.

Christmas Store - Ascension St. John Hospital (34022-SJ2PJ5)*

*The Christmas Store community initiative to supply indigent families who are identified by the Social Work department with Christmas gifts for their children. Funds are used to purchase grocery gift cards, clothing/toys/gifts for needy patients/families, hats, gloves, diapers, books, school supplies, transportation to the event for families if needed and other supplies such as Santa photos, crafts, wrapping supplies, etc.

Healthy Neighborhoods Detroit Initiative (34027-514000-85961) Gifts benefit the Health and Safety office which provides access to free health and safety summits; community patrols to target crime “hot spots;” volunteer recruitment efforts; administrative and patrol dispatch support to those living in and around Conner Creek Village. Funds are also used to create safety kits containing the following: a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, LED flashlight, smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, batteries, emergency contact magnets, coupons for home and auto alarms and literature for home safety, crime prevention and emergency action plans.

Holley Institute (34016-BH2BA5) Assists the deaf, deaf/blind and hard of hearing by providing services and programs aimed at improving quality of life.

Infant Mortality Program (34022-CH2PG2) Provides free services for pregnant women, mothers, fathers, infants and their families in metro Detroit. Helps to reduce infant mortality by supporting high-risk moms throughout their pregnancy, helping babies through their first year of life, improving women’s potential through increased literacy and providing mothers and fathers with parenting skills and information.

Mobile Health Center (Preventative Heart Screenings) (34022-SY2704) Gifts support onsite, comprehensive heart and vascular screenings for adults, children and students who otherwise would not be able to pay for these lifesaving services.

Open Arms (Grief and Trauma Support) (34027-514000-85950) Provides support and counseling for adults and children experiencing grief and trauma. This program educates the community about grief and trauma and its long-term impact along with supportive services, resources and intervention to victims of crime.
